Taking Action for Anti-Racism

  • Learners will explore events around the Bristol Bus Boycott anti-racism campaign and the lasting change the campaign brought to Britain.     

  • Learners will analyse the persuasive speech given by Malala Yousafzai when receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and go on to consider how her actions and message can inspire others to speak out about different forms of discrimination. 

  • Learners will analyse 5 short Black Lives Matter anti-racism speeches, exploring the difference between being non-racist and anti-racist. 

  • Learners will explore what it means to decolonise the Scottish curriculum as an anti-racist action. Looking at this from the perspective of 3 pupils in Scotland, they will reflect on how including stories, characters and contributions of others around the world that have impacted on the lives that we live today,is an anti-racist action that should be taken by schools.

Learners will explore a range of persuasive texts, speeches and actions which have broughtabout positive change and challenged racial discrimination in some way. The importance of thedifference between being anti-racist and non-racist underpins the activities and learners will besupported to think about and develop actions to become anti-racist advocates, developing anti-racism and embedding it in their everyday principles.
